Cookie Policy
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how the Pilsmaatje web application at app.pilsmaatje.nl uses cookies and similar technologies. This policy applies only to the web version of Pilsmaatje; the native mobile apps (iOS and Android) do not use cookies.
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
2. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by your web browser. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, and IndexedDB — all of which allow websites and web applications to store data locally in your browser.
3. How we use cookies and similar technologies
Pilsmaatje does not use any advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies. We only use essential storage technologies required for the app to function.
3.1 Essential (strictly necessary)
These cannot be disabled without breaking the App. Under the EU ePrivacy Directive (Telecommunicatiewet in the Netherlands), strictly necessary cookies do not require consent.
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| IndexedDB | Firebase Auth (Google) | Stores your authentication session so you stay logged in between visits. | Until you log out or clear browser data. |
| Service Worker cache | Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) | Enables background push notification delivery for the web app. | Until you unregister notifications or clear browser data. |
| Local/session storage | Pilsmaatje | May be used for temporary UI state (e.g. form drafts). | Session or until cleared. |
3.2 Third-party service cookies
When the App loads certain third-party services, those services may set their own cookies:
| Service | Provider | Purpose | More info |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Maps | Google LLC | Rendering the map view. Google may set cookies for load balancing and abuse prevention. | Google Privacy Policy |
| Firebase | Google LLC | Authentication and SDK functionality. | Firebase Privacy |
We do not control these third-party cookies. Please refer to the respective providers' policies for details.
4. Cookies we do NOT use
For full transparency:
- No analytics cookies — We do not use Google Analytics, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or any similar service.
- No advertising cookies — We do not serve ads or use ad tracking.
- No social media tracking cookies — We do not embed Facebook, Twitter/X, or other social plugins.
- No fingerprinting — We do not use browser fingerprinting techniques.
5. Managing cookies
You can control cookies and similar technologies through your browser settings:
- Clear cookies and site data: Each browser has settings to clear stored cookies, local storage, and IndexedDB data.
- Block cookies: You can configure your browser to block all or third-party cookies. Note that blocking essential storage will prevent Pilsmaatje from functioning (you will not be able to stay logged in).
- Service Workers: You can unregister service workers in your browser's developer tools (Application > Service Workers).
For browser-specific instructions:
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy if we change how we use cookies or similar technologies. Significant changes will be communicated through the App. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
